Woven in the windswept heights of Erzurum, the loftiest region in Turkey, this 90-year-old kilim is a radiant testament to the enduring elegance of Anatolian textile artistry. Dyed with organic vegetal madder and crafted entirely from wool on wool, it carries within its warp and weft the breath of mountain air and the pulse of pastoral life. At its heart, a monumental medallion commands the field with effortless grandeur, flanked by stylized floral borders that meander like ancient botanical manuscripts; ornamental yet organic, reverent yet free-spirited. Unlike more austere or ceremonious weavings, this piece dances with a chromatic exuberance that belies its age. A grounding field of inky black provides the stage for a jubilant interplay of color, as if the flora and skies of Anatolia had been distilled and woven into form. Saffron red smolders with sun-drenched warmth, while electric bubblegum pink zings across the surface like a flash of wild petal in spring wind. Natural flax and bone white temper the composition with an earthen clarity, while mint, seafoam, and muted turquoise evoke waters hidden in highland hollows. Cornflower blue and grape introduce a cooling contrast, whispering of dusk and shadow, while burnt umber and forest green root the piece in soil and stone. Each hue seems to emerge not from pigment alone, but from memory; from landscape, ritual, and seasons long folded into the fiber. There is nothing performative here, only an honest exuberance that bridges the pastoral and the modern, the ceremonial and the spontaneous. Far more than an artifact, this kilim is an oracular textile, conjuring both the geography that bore it and the hands that shaped it. It does not merely recall tradition; it reimagines it, radiating a timeless vitality that is at once grounded and transcendent.

Colour palette: black, natural flax, electric bubblegum pink, burnt umber, seafoam green, grape, white, muted turquoise, muted forest green, deep lavender, cornflower blue and mint green.
